Today, the Brisa Group recognised Class 4 from Escola Básica Nº1 de Prado in Vila Verde as the winner of the 2026 edition of the “Cidade Segura” (Safe City) challenge, part of the road safety education programme the company has been running for more than two decades. The award ceremony took place at Jamor Urban Park, bringing together almost 100 children and teachers from across Portugal.

The project submitted by Class 4 from Escola Básica Nº1 de Prado was selected as the overall winner of this year’s edition. The class received a €2,500 prize in the form of a Gil Card, awarded by the Brisa Group to fund a school project. The pupils observed, analysed and represented the urban environment surrounding their school, identifying challenges related to road traffic and pedestrian safety. Their work culminated in a detailed scale model of their local community, incorporating concrete solutions and proposals to make journeys safer.

Part of “Já Chegámos”, the Brisa Group’s road safety education programme, “Cidade Segura” challenges school pupils to imagine and build safer, more sustainable cities that encourage responsible mobility. Several school projects took part throughout April, with five finalist classes selected to present their work at Jamor today.

The event brought together around 100 children and teachers for a morning dedicated to road safety, creativity and hands-on learning. The mascots Brisinha and Íris welcomed participants to an environment designed to engage younger audiences with safe mobility through fun and educational activities.

Following presentations of the five finalist cities on stage, participants had the opportunity to take part in a range of educational experiences, including the “Super Safety Quiz”, the “Care Corner”, the “Road Guardian Maze” and the “Grand Drivers’ Circuit”. These activities were designed to reinforce safe road behaviours in a practical and engaging way.

Road safety education programme reaches new generations

The 2026 edition also marks a new phase in the Brisa Group’s road safety education programme, which has been expanded to cover new age groups, reaching children and young people aged 6 to over 18.

Alongside “Já Chegámos”, aimed at primary school students, the programme now includes two new initiatives:

  • “Tudo a Andar”, aimed at young people aged 11 to 15, with content tailored to the challenges and behaviours typically associated with adolescence.
  • “Ao Volante”, aimed at young people aged 16 and over who are approaching driving age, promoting a culture of responsibility, prevention and safety in preparation for their future driving experience.

Through this expansion, the Brisa Group reinforces its commitment to fostering a road safety culture from an early age, supporting young people through different stages of development and helping shape more aware, responsible citizens who are better prepared for the challenges of mobility.
